Sewage Spill Closes Dog Beach In OB~ OH NOOOOO!!

A 14,000-gallon sewage spill has forced the closure of Dog Beach in Ocean Beach, according to a Chopper 8 report. The Environmental Health Department has closed the beach between the jetty and lifeguard tower 5. It was unknown how long the closure would be in effect.

A spill of about 14,850 gallons of sewage prompted a pollution alert today in northern Ocean Beach.
The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health issued the advisory about the contamination in the surf at Dog Beach in the late morning.
Signs warning of contamination hazards will stand in the area until follow-up testing deems the stretch of shoreline safe again for recreational uses.
The source of the spill was not immediately clear.

SAN DIEGO — A stretch of coastline in Ocean Beach was declared unfit for swimming and surfing Monday due to an influx of sewage that poured out of a blocked sanitation pipeline near San Diego State University and flowed about 10 miles before entering the sea.
The wastewater spill at the intersection of Airoso and Del Cerro avenues began shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, according to the county Department of Environmental Health.
By the time city crews were able to halt the overflow about 90 minutes later, roughly 14,850 gallons of sewage had drained into the San Diego River, DEH spokesman Mark McPherson said.
Signs warning of contamination hazards will stand along the ocean shoreline at Dog Beach, just south of the mouth of the river, until follow-up testing deems the area safe again for recreational uses.

  6. That's really suck! Why are humans always so careless... now we have to wait for the beach to re-open. Hope the spill doesn't threaten the wildlife on the beach.

  7. OOOOH yucky pooh, that's nasty. Hope it clears up soon, I know that's quite a bit of sewage but with the currents and waves it shouldn't be long right?
